AB teamOn April 12, 2010, United States Consul General Paul Folmsbee visited Indicorps and learned firsthand about two local projects: Ahmedabad Ultimate and Aajeevika Bureau.

Ahmedabad Ultimate Project manager Jaidip Patel along with August 2009 Fellows Raksha Joshi and Rahul Brahmbhatt dicussed the ability for sport (and in particular Ultimate Frisbee) to bring disparate communities together, teach life lesson and build character.  A fun two-minute AU video accentuated the point. Folmsbee immediately took a liking to the Ahmedabad Ultimate sports for development program: being a football player he understands the power of sport.

Aajeevika Bureau chief Rajiv Khandelwal along with August 2009 Fellows Rikin Tank and Nina Jhaveri organized a short meeting between Folmsbee and Rajasthani migrants.  Rajiv Ji and Rikin presented Folmsbee with an ID card similar to the cards produced for their migrant worker constituency.

Consul General Folmsbee said of Indicorps: “You are all doing impressive and important work – you should all feel very proud of your accomplishments. You are certainly making a difference.” Indicorps looks forward to partnering with Consul General Folmsbee to increase the reach and effectiveness of service programs in India.

Prior to joining the Mumbai consulate, Folmsbee served in many “hardship” posts with the US State Department in locations such as Iraq and Pakistan. His present jurisdiction encompasses five states in west-central India.
